“People are hungrier than ever for faster Internet, and as a result, cities across America are making speed a priority,” Google says. “We’ve long believed that the Internet’s next chapter will be built on gigabit speeds, so it’s fantastic to see this momentum.” Google says up to 34 cities in all could potentially receive Fiber service. Google Fiber is Google‘s fiber-to-the-premises service in the United States, providing broadband internet and television to a small but growing number of locations. The initial location was chosen following a competitive selection process.Over 1,100 communities applied to be the first recipient of the service. On March 30, 2011,Google announced that Kansas City, Kansas, would be the first community where the new network would be deployed. The network is being rolled out toKansas City, Missouri, with plans underway for expansion to several other Kansas City area suburbs, as well as Austin, Texas, and Provo, Utah.

I think Google fiber is just another way for the government and the NSA to survey the population… just my opinion
